Frequently Asked Questions

Can DPoint humidifiers be used for Hydrogen fuel humidification?
The membrane we currently use is micro-porous so it will pass Hydrogen in the dry state. During start-up, when the membrane could be dry (depending on the length of time from last use), Hydrogen could pass into the humidified air stream in quantities that exceed the Lower Explosion Limit in air. Therefore with the membrane currently offered, it is not recommended for use with Hydrogen. In the near future there will be low cost membranes available for use with Hydrogen.

What is the total pressure drop and dew-point approach temperature performance of your humidifiers?

What is the difference between approach temperature and dew-point approach temperature?
The approach temperature is the temperature difference between the hot, wet fuel cell exhaust and the dry supply air entering the fuel cell after it has passed through the humidifier. It is the difference between the two dry bulb temperatures and does not take into account water vapour transfer, only sensible heat transfer.

The dew-point approach temperature is the difference between the hot, wet fuel cell exhaust and the dry supply air entering the fuel cell after it has passed through the humidifier. It is the difference between the two wet bulb temperatures and does take into account water vapour transfer.

Is the Dx5 scaleable?
Yes, the Dx5 is scalable to any number of plates between 5 and 73 ranging from 500W to 7.5 kW (35 slpm to 500 slpm). The standard Dx5 comes in a 51 plate configuration. Product performance, volume, and price vary proportionally with the number of plates requested.

Is the Dx1 scaleable?
Yes the Dx1 is scalable to any number of plates between 5 and 51 ranging from 150W to 1.5 kW (8 slpm to 80 slpm). The standard Dx1 comes in a 51 plate configuration. Product performance, volume, and price vary proportionally with the number of plates requested.
